Revised: Strengths, Weaknesses and goals

Some of my strengths in writing are to think of ideas and brainstorm. Once I get interested and understand a topic, I can talk about it a lot. For example, I used to write poems because it was my ability to convey my ideas creatively. I enjoyed writing them because it was free writing for myself and I did not have to worry about someone else reading them. One of my second strengths is that I understand grammar and punctuation rules.

However, when I encounter a topic that is difficult to understand, I have difficulty developing the ideas I need to write about. Often I have trouble understanding a topic because Spanish is my first language. Because English is not my first language, I tend to write informally. I usually write as if I were speaking because that is the way I learned English.

One of my goals for this class and for myself is to learn how to write formally by reading formal English. I also want to improve my organization by planning what I am going to write about. Instead of writing the first things that comes to my mind, I need to focus on the point of what I am writing about.
