Technology Defines My Generation

Technology defines my generation. Just recently waterproof cell phones have hit the shelves at wireless phone shops. Now, a car manufactured by Infiniti can detect accidents, and alert the driver, whom would expectedly so bring his/her car to an immediate stop. There is another vehicle produced by a different manufacturer that performs similarly; within near collisions with another car, the vehicle automatically stops. In addition, there is a series of other smart technology including smart televisions and smart wrist watches, in which its users can access the worldwide web and many mobile apps, respectively. There are a lot of technological items that I mentioned before, but it is even more amazing what one object can do, such as a smart phone. I would define a smartphone as a personal laptop, television, radio, and book all in one tiny hand held item. I own a touchscreen smartphone by Samsung and its capability includes surfing the internet, watching television shows, listening to music without commercial interruptions, and reading novels and short stories. However, smartphones are not just limited to personal use; smartphones can be used for business or school-related purposes. For instance, among many other capabilities included in my smartphone is an office application called ThinkFree Office, in which I can write word documents, create powerpoints, and fill in spreadsheets! While technology certainly has its impact on my generation, the impact is not necessarily so great. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 69% of drivers, ranging from ages 18 to 64, in the United states reported in a survey that they text or talk on their cell phone while driving; the CDC notes that those drivers, particularly those under 20 years of age are at a higher risk of getting into a fatal car accident because they’re involved in the most texting-while-driving related accidents, and half of the high school students in the U.S. text while driving. So, technology does have its impact on my society, a good impact and negative; because technology can be very valuable in getting work done and cause the death of lives, I do believe technology defines my generation.

  1. Lionel,
While you provide some good specific examples, your single long paragraph is difficult to read. You should break up your work into the basic essay structure - intro, body, conclusion. Also, avoid telling your reader what they already know. Most readers will know what a smartphone is and what it does. No need to insult their intelligence. Stick to writing about what you think defines your generation, why you think it defines your generation, and what that definition means to you.
