Lionel's Strengths, Weaknesses, and Goals in Writing

Mr. Scott writes with thought - that's a strength; in turn, thinking while writing slows him down, way down - that is a weakness of his. Usually, creativity and clarity is present in Mr. Scott's writing when he does have time to think while writing. Another problem he has--if you give him time to think while writing--is producing choppy sentences. Sometimes, repetition is apparent in his writing, probably due to laziness or exhaustation; for instance, two paragraphs in his senior high school paper covered two of the same issues. Fortunately, he realized this, and in his final draft of his paper included those two paragraphs covering two different unique issues; consider attention-to-detail a strength he attributes to his writing.

So, there could be four goals Mr. Scott would like to accomplish in his writing. What he desperately wants to accomplish is writing with security - stop worrying about what looks or is right in his writing, and be concerned with revision afterwards. Another goal he considers accomplishing is completing this course with at least basic understanding of the writing techniques that will be presented through this course. Brainstorming is something Mr. Scott feels the need to get used to, but doesn't necessarily wants to, because he prefers just going straight into the full-body portion of writing, as he believes brainstorming isn't neccesary for him. Finally, what else can Mr. Scott accomplish? There is no fourth goal that immediately comes to his mind, because Mr. Scott believes himself still on a path to finding out who he is as a writer and that his time in this course will help him exploit other skills, or habits in his writing that he may want to capitalize on.
